The black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas) is native to two areas of Africa, including South African and Lesotho. They have a dark saddle on the back, which runs from the nape of the neck to the base of the tail. Black-backed jackals are monogamous, and a breeding pair usually bonds for life. The pups from the previous year may stay on as helpers; creating an extended family unit. Our Camera trap has captured a glimpse of black-backed jackal sharing the Ts’ehlanyane National Park with Maliba!

Passport Validity

Passports must be valid for a minimum 6 months.

All minors under the age of 18 years are required to travel with and produce, in addition to their passport, an Unabridged Birth Certificate (showing the particulars of both parents) when exiting and entering South African ports of entry.

Generally speaking, most visitors will not require a Visa to enter Lesotho. For more information, Click Here.

  • All visitor must hold documents and tickets required for their return/onward journey and sufficient funds to cover their stay.
  • Visitors who wish to stay longer than 14 days should apply for extensions at the Lesotho Immigration Authorities within the initial 14 day period
