Prince Harry In Lesotho – A Right Royal Success

Prince Harry in Lesotho-1733103Prince Harry has pleased everyone this week with a highly successful trip to Lesotho as part of work for his charity Sentebale. Prince Harry worked alongside the younger brother of Lesotho’s King, Prince Seeiso as part of the charity which he setup in 2006 to commemorate both their deceased mothers. Sentebale means ‘forget me not’ in Sotho.

The two princes visited Kananelo Centre for the Deaf, in a rural setting outside the capital Maseru. It is one of just two schools for deaf children in the country. In a series of 1-storey huts, a group of Catholic nuns educate 85 students aged between five and 22. Prince Harry first visited in 2004 during his gap year, and from 2008, has provided 70% of the school’s running costs. Read more

Child shepherds flock to night school

In the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, boys as young as five spend months on end tending cattle in the isolation of remote highland country.

For the young, becoming a herd boy is a cultural obligation in Lesotho society, a practice which leaves many children deprived of an education.

It’s not every day that a member of the Royal family of Lesotho visits Maliba Mountain lodge, however each visit is a very special one and lives long in the memory.

Kokonyana “Juliet” Nkopa, reflects on what it means to welcome Prince Seeiso and his wife Princess Mabereng to Maliba Lodge.

“I am very happy because I really wanted to meet him face to face, and he is very good to Basotho people especially the orphans, he usually gives them the presents. This also shows that he hasn’t forgotten about us here at Maliba Lodge, as this was his second visit. I was nervous to go to him, but because of his friendly appearance it was easy to talk to him and to serve him as well. I would really like to see him again with his children.” Read more

Prince Harry rode into a mountain village on horseback in a colourful African royal procession before introducing his brother William to one of the world’s poorest countries.

As the two brothers began a two-day visit to the southern African nation of Lesotho, Prince Harry was given the rare honour of a royal procession to welcome him to the impoverished kingdom, where his Sentebale charity helps vulnerable children. Read more
