Maliba’s Organic Garden

Being a remote Lodge in Lesotho we decided to start our very own Organic Vegetable Garden. Relying on suppliers has its drawbacks, but this project will hopefully one day provide all of our requirements.

Having green fingers myself, I was very excited at the prospect. Now don’t get me wrong, we’re not all Hippy loving tree huggers, we just like to do a little digging, digging for the freshest Organic Vegetables we can possibly lay our hands on.

We started the project roughly a year ago and the harvests so far have been amazing.  We have an open planting area as well as a Green House which we use to cultivate seedlings.  We also grow all of our Herbs, ranging from Rocket, Basil, Coriander, Parsley, Oregano and Thyme.  I have also discovered that by decorating your Green House with Kitsch Garden Ornaments, one can have a rather amusing time strolling about.

We here at Maliba pride ourselves on providing our Guests with only the freshest and eco-friendly produce available. We have a variety of Vegetables growing in the Garden such as Carrots, Turnips, Tomatoes, Onions, Beetroot, Radishes and many more.

Popeye spinachThat’s why when the resident heard of Eland invaded my Garden at some early hour of the morning looking for Popeye Vegetation, I didn’t mind too much as they did leave me with a large amount of natural compost.  Kids, you’ll be glad to know that you’re not going to have to finish your Spinach after all.

We incorporate these vegetables into our daily menus to make sure that the Guests can say that they “won’t think again” and stay away from McCain, hopefully realizing that the best Vegetables there are, are ones that are fresh, crisp and when pulled out of the Ground doesn’t contain a fancy Label. Go organic.  Go green.
